At the end of a very long day/night/day/night of travel - exhausted, but here. Once we left the US, everything ran like clockwork. Desk agents and border personnel were kind and helpful. KLM serves good food in even more adorable packaging. The box accompanying our egg salad sandwich from Amsterdam to Edinburgh shared in a sweet little note how kind they are to their chickens. We can even go visit the farm - it says.
We were met at the airport by Davina - a dynamite Scottish woman who knows everything there is to know about Edinburgh, Scotland, and everything in between. She took us to breakfast at a golf course where we had homemade scones, jam and cream with tea and shortbread as well. We then got an extensive tour of Edinburgh via small coach and some walking. We saw many Harry Potter inspiring places, including the street that inspired Diagon Alley.
The afternoon adventure ended with a lunch at the Sheep's Hed - a place that's been around since the 1400s. It also features the world's oldest Skittle Alley - which I found later was a bowling alley. We dragged back to our accommodations at University of Edinburgh and start bright and early in the morning for our technical theatre tour.
Lessons learned:
1. My dad always said you can't make up for lost time on the road, but I believe a tenacious Scottish woman can and will, by God.
2. Fresh scones and jam can make two days of bad travel feel a lot better.
3. 24 hour time clock? I can barely get used to the time difference, much less being somewhere at 17:25.
Happy to be here in this fantastic country with so much history.
Peace.
These are wonderful to read! Please keep em coming!
